The lifesaving shipwreck
At one time, there were some
people travelling by boat, a caique,
when the floating means of
transportation where not safe yet; during
the journey, a great storm
broke out and the small caique started
sinking; the captain sent the
distress signal of their days and of their
technology but by the time the
...let’s call it, lifeguard boat arrived,
the small caique sank, all the
passengers drowned and only one was
saved, whom the wave threw on
a rock; and being hooked by the
rock, he was trying to hold
himself, he was trying to save himself.
When the competent lifeguards
arrived, they gave him the first aid
and after him coming around,
they asked him....:
...well, how did you get
saved? You didn’t get carried away by the
waves?
and he answered:...
...I was beaten by the waves,
but the rock was firm...
...I was beaten, but the rock
was firm....
this word:...but... is a great
consolation.
How is this story interpreted
in our life?
Many times we are covered by the
waves of the flowing life and we
are in danger of being
swallowed up, of getting lost.
We will avoid the «shipwrecks»
of all kinds, even if we are beaten, –
but as the waves on the rock
dissolve, in the same way, if we are
caught by the rock, we are not
afraid of shipwrecks.
and this rock is:...faith, this
rock is PANAGIA –Mother of God,
this rock is Jesus Christ, this
rock is love...
So, have courage in all kind
of trials, challenges, difficulties, when
spiritual storms, troubles,
temptations burst out,
...Shelter, assistance and
protection, and the cause of boasting be
for me the sinner who am
destitute now of every help, VIRGIN,
the power of the helpless are
you, and the hope of the
despairing...
…Graciously look upon your
servant, and attend to the affliction
that besets me, and redeem me
from all calamities, temptations
and perils and from injury, in
your infinite compassion….
....Overlook not your servant
who is drowning in the billowing
waves of everyday existence, O
noble VIRGIN, lend a helping
hand to me in your great
compassion for I am exhausted by life's
unending evils...
...I have found you a harbor in
the tempest, and rejoicing and
happiness in sorrows, a speedy
help in sickness and infirmity,
also a protectress in ordeals,
and likewise a rescuer in perils...
Be strong, and may you have a
good continuation in everything you
do, beloved children,
and don’t be afraid,
do not be shaken...
we are not a flock without a
shepherd... The Lord is my shepherd; I
shall not want...
nor a craft adrift... so
having this anchor of faith (PANAGIA –
Mother of God!!!! you say it
and it fills the mouth and heart and
soul...)
with wishes and love.
