ΑBOUT THE SACRED RELICS OF OUR HOLY MONASTERY
The honour
and veneration of sacred relics of our Church has started since ancient times
and St . John Chrysostom had been the first to motivate, teach and analyse
everything about the honour and respect, the veneration and blessing of sacred
relics.
A man is
body and soul, and when living by every word of God, obeying the Commandments,
leading spiritual life and striving through his battle, his faith, his love,
his charity towards man ,he becomes a Chosen Vessel for God and the Holy Spirit
indwells his heart, he becomes a helper of the divine grace, a God - bearer,
which means that the divine grace, the God indwells him and he gets sanctified;
and as a troparion says in a saint's service.... : ....and the very God of
peace sanctifies you wholly.......
The body
and soul are sanctified and on the day of
its assumption the soul rises towards the spring of sanctification,
towards God, towards the resting place but the body remains on earth, it is
buried like Jesus Christ, Panagia, our saints, our loved ones were buried. It
is not burnt as the evil has unfortunately managed to get this satanic message
across to many people.
If St
.Peter's shadow cured a lot of sick people and resurrected dead people, if
miracles were performed by St.Paul's handkerchief, imagine what the body can do
and those of the body which struggled, suffered, strove, fought and was fought,
received the Body and Blood of the Lord Jesus Christ and the divine grace, was
fermented with the blessing and the sanctifying divine grace, and became the
temple of the Holy Spirit and spring of blessing, sanctification and
transmission of the divine grace.
On the day
of its assumption the body ,adhering to and obeying the divine command ,is
dissolved.... : .....The earth is the Lord's and the fulness thereof.... , but
the bones remain incorruptible and the sanctifying grace, which was not
separated on the day of assumption, indwells the relics of our saints and they
become a spring of sanctification, blessing and miracles to those who honour
and embrace them with faith.
Our Church
inaugurates the temples with holy relics of our holy-martyrs, while formerly,
people built the temples on the tombs of the martyrs and by this ,St .John
Chrysostom established the honourable worship and veneration of holy relics.
Honouring the holy relics means respecting, honouring and embracing our saints,
who struggled and became Chosen Vessels.
Holy relics
are kept as precious spiritual treasure and heritage, like spiritual Patriots
usually at monasteries and especially in Greece inside small vessels
called : reliquaries , in several shapes
and sizes depending on the holy relic;they are either silver or wooden,
sometimes even gold and they are laid for veneration.
God has
given His blessing to our Holy Monastery and we have inherited from Crete holy
relics of thirty-three saints and some other holy objects, which are kept at
the holy monastery inside wooden reliquaries with the names of the saints. They
are displayed for veneration at the end of every evening service when, after
the completion of it , we faithfully venerate them.
May the
blessing of the holy relics, which is a great blessing and protection for the
country, be cohabitant and fellow traveller of those who venerate them and also
of those who are unable to venerate due to reasonable causes.
Bless,
Christ is
Risen .
